Both Neymar and Pogba reportedly wish to leave their respective clubs this summer and it’s believed the Parisian club had offered a potential swap deal.
Neymar has been linked with a return to Camp Nou with Barcelona this summer, whilst Pogba also being linked to a return to a former club in Juventus. Both stars are also reported to have interest from Real Madrid, though Los Blancos’ purchase of Eden Hazard has made any move for Neymar nigh-on impossible.
The report claims a swap deal involving Neymar wasn’t in the interests of Woodward, a surprisingly out of character move by the United CEO, with his priority to keep Pogba in Manchester this summer. Furthermore, Neymar’s reported £900,000-a-week wage stumped even United, with the club already trying to discard Alexis Sánchez’s extortionate wage package, thought to be £350,000-a-week excluding bonuses.
Away from Pogba, United are closing in on a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka with talks continuing on Monday afternoon with the aim to conclude an agreement. It’s thought Crystal Palace are demanding a fee in the region of £50m, whilst also wanting a sell-on clause removed from Wilfried Zaha’s contract with the Ivorian eyeing a move away from Selhurst Park.
United’s pre-season tour opener against Perth Glory takes place on 13th July, a date in which boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær had wanted all summer business completed by. However, with a few weeks to go, the Red Devils have only brought in one new addition, Daniel James from Swansea for an initial fee of £15m. With fans already turning against the Glazers once more, it’s up to Woodward to ensure that same level of pressure doesn’t come at his feet when the transfer window slams shut.
