Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot has been offered £170,000-a-week by Manchester United with the 24-year-old set to leave the Ligue 1 side this summer after failing to agree a contract extension.
The Red Devils have already confirmed Ander Herrera will leave the club this summer and the Spaniard is expected to move to France with PSG, and it’s now likely Rabiot will replace the fan-favourite at Old Trafford.
TF1 report that Rabiot is in contract discussions with both United and Marco Silva’s Everton. A potential stumbling block for both sides is that the Ligue 1 midfielder is reportedly a big admirer of Steven Gerrard and is hoping that an approach from Champions League winners Liverpool will arrive, per GFFN.
Rabiot is said to have received offers from Barcelona and Tottenham in January, but his financial demands asked more than both clubs were capable of. It’s the second PSG player United have been linked to this week, with right-back Thomas Meunier also reportedly close to United in a deal worth £22m.
Though the signing would cost nothing due to Rabiot’s contract expiring at the Parisian club this summer, the offer of £170,000-a-week sounds excessive from United in addition to an expected £4.5million signing bonus for a player who fell out of favour at the Parc des Princes after attempting to push a move elsewhere. His mother, who acts as his agent, has also caused problems for Rabiot before, such as publicly complaining that Laurent Blanc was playing her son out of position. His attitude has also been questioned, most notably after he refused to act as a member of Didier Deschamps stand-by list for his World Cup-winning squad in 2018, sending an email to notify the France manager of his decision.
Though undoubtedly a talented player, the question as to whether this United squad need’s any more players with big ego’s and outspoken agents remains and the addition of Rabiot may only add more controversy inside the dressing room.
