Manchester United began their pre-season campaign on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Australian side Perth Glory with two academy graduates in Marcus Rashford and James Garner getting their name on the scoresheet.
The friendly, which took place at the Optus Stadium in Perth, saw new additions Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bisska feature in a United shirt for the first time since joining the club this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær opted to play two different eleven’s in the Red Devils’ first outing of the season, making the line-up change at the half-time interval. The first-half side saw James make his United debut, starting from the left, whilst the second saw Wan-Bissaka in his usual right-back position. Ashley Young was named captain before the match kicked-off before the 34-year-old gave the armband to Spaniard Juan Mata.
Want-away Romelu Lukaku was not included in the matchday squad amidst rumours of a move to Serie A with Inter, though word from the club is the Belgian picked up a knock earlier this week, with Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelöf also missing from United’s usual squad.
The full highlights of the match can be seen below and United fans will be hoping the winning start to pre-season will continue against Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United on Wednesday.
