Manchester United’s Juan Mata has urged fellow team-mates David De Gea and Paul Pogba to stay at the club with the duo’s current future in Manchester uncertain.
Though De Gea has reportedly agreed terms on a new deal at Old Trafford, speculation still surrounds Pogba with Mino Raiola pursing possible moves for the Frenchman this summer.
Speaking to the BBC, Mata said: “He’s [Pogba] a fantastic midfielder and he’s a very good guy. I think he’s happy. Obviously as a team-mate, and as a friend also, I would like him to stay and to be happy because he is a very good player for us.”
The 31-year-old wasn’t done there, also admitting his desire to see Spanish companion De Gea stay at the club, rather than following Ander Herrera’s path of leaving the Red Devils this summer. “David is the best or one of the best goalkeepers in the world, for sure,” Mata added.
“He is one of my best friends, so I want him to stay. On a professional level, it will be great for us if he stays because he will give us many points over the next seasons.”
The former Chelsea midfielder signed a two-year contract extension to stay at United earlier this month and reportedly took a wage-cut in order to extend his deal and has admitted his ‘dream’ of returning the major honours back to the club.
“The feeling of being a Manchester United player is so unique. I am very happy to stay here. I am dreaming about winning big trophies at this club. That is what the fans deserve. We want to win big trophies again. That is what the history of this club deserves,” Mata said.
