Inter Milan have reached a deal with Manchester United to take forward Alexis Sánchez on a season-long loan deal with the Italian club set to stump up £175,000 of the Chilean’s reported £390,000 weekly earnings.
Sánchez will join former United striker Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro with the deal reported to be a 10-month loan period, however, there is thought to be no option to buy, according to the Guardian.
The former Arsenal man has endured an unhappy 18 months as United’s number seven, during which time he has amassed just five goals from 45 games in all appearances. The only goal of note came against Newcastle back in October, with the two-time Copa America winner scoring a last-minute header to cap a sensational United comeback at Old Trafford.
The deal means United will be paying just over £2million whilst Sánchez is playing in Italy, 55% of his total weekly wage, added onto the £28million United have already paid the Chilean in wages so far, this move has been costly to the team in more ways than one.
The departure of Lukaku and now Sánchez leaves United desperately short of options up-front, with only Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial recognised as strikers, the latter of which is a doubt for Saturday’s game against Southampton.
Quite how Ole Gunnar Solskjær will line the team up should Martial not be fit remains to be seen, but the Sánchez deal could pour further scorn on the club’s lack of recruitment up top this Summer. Should Rashford and Greenwood also sustain injuries then the outlook for United’s frontline looks particularly bleak.
